Rehabilitation of Pyawt Ywar Pump Irrigation Project
The Livelihoods and Food Security Trust (LIFT) in Myanmar are supporting rehabilitation of a pump irrigation project at Pyawt Ywar (PYPIP) in the Dry Zone, near Sagaing, working with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MOALI) Irrigation and Water Utilisation Management Division (IWUMD), who currently manage the scheme. UNOPS will carry out physical rehabilitation works; a consortium led by IWMI and including ICRISAT, Welthungerhilfe Myanmar (WHH), and National Engineering and Planning Services (NEPS), has been commissioned to provide support to upgrade water management institutions and practice, and to improve agronomic inputs and outcomes. The scheme is nominally 5000 acres but currently only about 1200 ac are irrigated.
